This is definitely the island of the Swedes… Koh Lanta. Everyone in Krabi was talking about it…. Stay away from Phi Phi and go to Koh Lanta and I see what they mean! This place is a little secret paradise and it helps that I’m staying at Lanta Residence Spa & Hotel. It has a pool with wifi beside it.
Pretty much only did one day of sightseeing in 5 nights. Took a scooter around the island to check out the other beaches but the best one was the closest – Long Beach (not Koh Phi Phi one). It’s so empty and clean, sure there is no fancy hills but It’s Clean and not Rocky! On the way we saw some monkey’s and they were so cute! Then I saw a bigger one and wanted to see it until it showed it’s sharp teeth and started chasing us. Now the monkey is definitely not as cute as the one in Phi Phi.
There are rumblings that anyone but young backpackers go to the islands around Ko Phi Phi and only take the boat to take photos from afar and now I see why. The dive shops here are fancy air-conditioned ones geared for people with money to buy gear and if you are craving Ikea meatballs, you can find them here! Most of all great seafood restaurants and bbq chicken here!
Until a few days ago I didn’t drink much but after meeting a couple of retired teachers from Vernon, BC we enjoyed a few cocktails and dinner with them these past couple nights. Now that’s one way to work through a whole bottle of wine in a night! Oh Wine I missed you!
I want to stay in Krabi province longer; I realized that what was only supposed to be a week to relax in Thailand became 18 days in this wonderful country. Knowing it is Chinese New Year for a few more days I need to move on and see the Chingay parade and try to fit in Penang, Malaysia for the food culture that Anthony Bourdain speaks highly of.
What I learned: I’ll definitely be back to Railay Beach and Ko Lanta on my next vacation, whenever that is…. Ps any family people it is kid friendly so all you guys having babies out here this is the spot to go!
